ADVOCACY - ISSUES

The 2019 Montana Legislative Symposium Delegation

Kelly Amidei, Michele Adams, and Holly Weinberg, met with legislative aides at the offices of Senators Jon Tester and Steve Daines and Representative Greg Gianforte to advocate for the clinical laboratory.

ANNUAL LEGISLATIVE SYMPOSIUM

ASCLS is proud to work with CLMA, ASCP, AGT, and AMT on the Legislative Symposium each year. The Legislative Symposium provides a great education on the how-to's of lobbying. Attendees are coached on presentation techniques so they can effectively talk to their congressional representative during their appointments. They are well received in the congressional offices. Attendees return home from Washington with first-hand knowledge of the political system in action and confidence that they make a difference.

The 2020 Legislative Symposium will be held March 16 - 17, 2020 at the Hilton Alexandria Old Town in Alexandria, VA.

Each year ASCLS-MT supports the attendance of at least two members to the Annual Legislative Symposium.

SUPPORT THE ASCLS PAC

At the 2019 ASCLS National Meeting, ASCLS-MT was awarded second place for the most contributions per member to the ASCLS PAC.

The ASCLS Political Action Committee (PAC) is a voluntary nonprofit organization created to provide financial and educational support for the election campaigns of responsible candidates for Congress. ASCLS PAC offers members a simple, convenient way to influence the elections process and actively participate in the federal decision-making process. Through the PAC, ASCLS members are able to unite together to gain the attention of candidates for national political office.

Now more than ever, laboratory professionals must take an active role to see that congressional reforms of American health care support cost-effective, high-quality clinical laboratory services. You can help by supporting ASCLS PAC. ASCLS-MT holds a PAC solicitation during the annual spring meeting but you can contribute at any time.  Contact Joni Gilstrap, Region VIII PAC Chair, to make a donation.  She will also be at the ASCLS-MT Spring Meeting in Helena accepting donations.
